Chivalry (Acoustic Demo)

I was sifting through some old hard drives and uncovered this track that was originally recorded as a demo for Anthems for the Fucked Up and Unreasonable back in 2010. To be perfectly honest, it’s really just the same old sentimental nonsense.

When I was about nineteen years old, I had enlisted the help of former Score bassist Brett Ramus in asking a girl that I was smitten with to go steady with me. He proceeded to suit me up in some Nerf body armor, hand me a foam sword, and shroud himself in ceremonial garb, proclaiming to be my squire. We rode imaginary horses to her front steps, with Brettly clacking hollowed coconuts together, creating a Python-esque soundtrack to the event. I got down on one knee, decreed that I found her to be the fairest maiden in the land, and courageously asked for her hand.

For some unknown reason, this actually worked.

Lyrics:

I’ll be your knight in
shining Nerf armor.
I’ll be your charming
prince, valiantly flawed.
I’ll be your last great
waste of date.

For eternity’s sake, you
should probably move on.

Though I never knew
why I wanted you,
I was happier that way.
I apologize if I
startled you,
but what I’ve been
meaning to say is

I’ll be your knight in
shining Nerf armor.
I’ll be your charming
prince, valiantly flawed.
I’ll be your last great
waste of date.

For eternity’s sake, you
should probably move on.

I know I’d never do
what you wanted to,
without blabbering away.
I apologize if
I’m starting to,
but what I’ve been
meaning to say is

I’ll be your knight in
shining Nerf armor.
I’ll be your charming
prince, valiantly flawed.
I’ll be your last great
waste of date.

For eternity’s sake, you
should probably move on.
